The Flood fam headed down to Eugene this weekend to celebrate the 4th of July with Uncle Kevin and Aunt Lee, who were gracious enough to host us for a few days. On the 4th, we had a barbecue with Kev, Lee, their friends Tyson and Katie, and Dan's cousin Jen. "Auntie Jen" (second cousin Jen is too long and formal) met baby Audrey for the first time and loved seeing her - she was even a natural at holding baby. After a lovely dinner of bbq'd chicken, steak, potatoes and some tasty sangria (courtesy of Target), we headed over to a large field near Kev and Lee's house, so we could get a good view of the fireworks from the Eugene Rodeo. Blankets and flashlights in hand, we trekked through the field and set up shop on some fallen hey. After a few minutes, mom and dad decided it was a bit too loud for baby Aud, so dad took her back to the house.
On day two, the fam headed out on the town, bright and early. The first stop was the track and field Olympic trails, being held in Eugene for the first time in decades. We toured the attractions surrounding the morning events, and somehow ended up backstage near the warm up area (we were the only ones without special passes around our necks, but no one seemed to be stopping us). We watched a few hurdlers in seriously peak physical condition warming up for the trials - pretty cool to watch.
After that, Flood Fam headed to the Eugene Saturday Market to get some food, shop, and blend in among the friendly and densely gathered hippie-folk. Mom and dad relived college through lunch by getting some tasty Thai food at the Bangkok Grill. We ate as we watched a guy playing the piano on stage and singing out against the evils of Starbucks and consumerism in general. Classic Eugene.
On the way back home, the fam stopped by the 5th Street Market and found a photo booth. On a whim, we popped in and had our pictures taken - the result was a great photo that perfectly captured the day and us as a still new family.
